Greg woke up early the morning after the defense and we had a lovely lunch with my Aunt Kay in Washington, DC. We had fun eating, reminiscing about trips she has taken, and looking forward to our own adventure. Aunt Kay made it clear she'll be waiting for us to take her out again once we return! We also had a wonderful dinner with Kat and Shawn at a yummy place in Columbia. We enjoyed food, drinks, and just spending time together before we leave. Also, it looks like they will be hanging out with Dawn and Chris much more once we leave town! After dinner, we went out for one last night in Federal Hill with Marco. We had a great time going from place to place, and even got him to enter the burger joint which used to be his favorite hip bar. It will be fun to meet up with him in Italy!
On Sunday, Greg and I went to have brunch with his advisor, Rosie. We had a fabulous time and it was so wonderful of her to host such an event. We ate, toasted Greg, and listed to stories of Germany as well as the thesis defense stories of Rosie as well as another member of Greg's committee. Rosie sent many compliments Greg's way, which was wonderful, but also made it clear she expected him back to work on Monday, hahhaa! It was truly a wonderful send-off and we look forward to hosting Rosie sometime in Germany.
Last night we spent a great evening with Brad, Elaine, Ariana, and C.J. It was C.J.'s one month birthday, so we also had the chance to sample some birthday cake! Greg enjoyed a nice dance party with Ariana, and a great time was had by all.
Tonight, we will be selling our car...akk! Tomorrow night, Dawn has planned a lovely goodbye dinner with Mary, Kirsten, and Jon. Thursday, Greg's parents arrive (hoorayy!!!!!) and we will be putting them to work with hard-core hanging out and packing :) Sunday, Eric and Erin have volunteered to host lunch at their house so we have the opportunity to see family one more time before we go.
After lunch, Mom and Dad will take us (with our many bags) to WV for one last evening in the U.S. Monday is the flight!!!
I figured we probably wouldn't get a chance to post again until we are in Germany, so this way everyone knows the schedule and can keep up. Also, Greg and I will be able to look back and remember our last fabulous week in the states! I just re-read our entries for our first visit in February and I'm getting pretty excited for the trip!
The Astronomy Picture of the Day !!! We were there in June!!! Our boat was parked at just that viewing spot! Wonderful memories....with many more ahead in Germany!
